The Loyola Muslim Students’ Association would like to apologize for any inconvenience we may have caused this past Saturday to anyone that attended or was interested in attending Dr. Tariq Ramadan’s lecture. Many of you traveled long distances, changed plans, and were really looking forward to this event. Due to the fact that Dr. Tariq Ramadan missed his flight and some miscommunication that occurred subsequently, we unfortunately had to keep postponing the event until we found a time for Dr. Ramadan’s lecture that met his schedule. Though much of the day’s confusion was due to circumstances beyond our control, we sincerely apologize for the difficulties that occurred that day and for any inconvenience they may have caused you. We truly appreciate all your support and look forward to seeing you at future events.

Retreat!

Salam,

Alhumdulilah it is time for the Brother’s and Sister’s retreats.

Sisters: will leave for Loyola’s retreat campus (LUREC) in Woodstock, IL on 5th and will return home on April 7th inshAllah.

Brothers: will leave for Loyola’s retreat campus (LUREC) in Woodstock, IL on April 7th, and we will return home on April 9th inshAllah.

This will be during Easter break and far before finals so we expect every MSA member to be attend. Ask any brother or sister who went on the retreat last year and they will tell you it was the most fun event of last year and one of the most beneficial on an individual and group level.

You can register for either retreat from the link below. The cost is $50 which includes room, meals, and transportation. Please sign up ASAP because it helps us plan and allows things to run smoothly. More details will be coming, but for now…

“LESSONS OF HOPE FROM DEEPER ROOTS IN ISLAM”
by Dr. Abdullah Hakim Quick!

Let’s face it, we’ve all made mistakes- it’s what makes us humans.
Sometimes, we are so ashamed of our sins and we really try our best to make up for it but we’re not sure exactly how.
Sometimes, it feels like our actions have completely shattered the light at the end of the tunnel.And lots of times, we forget that we have been given guidance by the Ar-Rahman, Ar-Rahim, The Extremely Merciful, The Constantly Merciful. This guidance has been given to us in the form of our beautiful Deen: Islam.

As the saying of our beautiful Prophet (S) has been narrated, “Every descendant of Adam is oft to err, and the best of those who err are those who are oft to repent.” -Tirmidhi. Dr. Hakim Quick will help us explore and deeper our connections with Islam so when we ‘err’, we can reduce the instances where we lose sight of Islam, undermine Allah swt’s mercy, and even stop a specific error all together. InshAllah.

***BIO of DR.ABDULLAH HAKIM QUICK***
Head of the Islamic History and Homiletics Department for the Al-Maghrib Institute. His students jokingly claim that he can look at you and accurately map out your family’s migration path, mainly due to his travels far and wide.He pursued his study of Islam at the Islamic University of Madinah in Saudi Arabia where he graduated and received an Ijaza from the College of Da’wah and Islamic Sciences in 1979, one of first two students to do so from the West. He later completed a Masters Degree and a Doctorate in African History at the University of Toronto in Canada.
